MY BEDROOM ESSENTIALS

Like many others, I had to make the adjustment to working from home in 2020. From using snack trays as desks to finding the least-cluttered corner for Zoom calls, recreating a work environment in our own personal space was quite a challenge.

On top of trying to find a work-life balance, I often experience symptoms of seasonal depression. It’s difficult for me to focus around clutter and the gloomy, winter months often affects my mental health and leaves me feeling unmotivated.

Once the realization kicked in that life wasn’t going to revert back to “normal” anytime soon, I gradually redecorated my bedroom to make it more lively and create a comfortable, productive workspace. My room revamp consisted of intentionally purchasing brighter decor, setting up an ergonomically-friendly workspace, and donating and tossing old items to create a simpler ambiance in my room.

Bright Duvet Set

It can often be underestimated how important decor is and how it affects our mood. Typically, it is best to go with bright and vibrant bedding and decor if you find yourself fighting the winter blues. While one costs significantly less than the other, coming from someone who has purchased from both of these companies, both of these duvet sets are of great quality.

Wall Decor

My room is fairly small and I have a skylight. Because I am not able to look outside at my surroundings, hanging up posters and my vinyl collection gives me something to look at and helps to make my space pop.

Humidifier

With the heater on full blast this winter, I’ve been dealing with extremely dry skin. I added a humidifier to my Amazon cart ASAP after learning from various sources that not only are they beneficial for keeping moisture in the air, but they can also help to lessen the spread of viruses. What I love about the Levoit humidifier is that it features a slot for essential oils and it comes with a remote control.

Ergonomic Office Gear

Got back problems? That’s crazy, me too. I initially made the mistake of buying a cute chair (because you know, aesthetic over comfort) — and my back suffered because of it. As a graphic designer and photographer, a lot of time is spent at my desk so I decided to switch over to ergonomic gear. Definitely a decision that I don’t regret.

My Must-Haves from Bando.com

While searching for a sold-out Baggu tote that I was determined to find, I came across bando.com. They sell clothes, accessories, home decor, planners, you name it. If you’re into a vibrant and nostalgic aesthetic, you should definitely give their website a look.

More Room Essentials

Tall Dresser - ikea.com

Although this labeled as an indoor/outdoor cabinet on IKEA’s website, I use this as a wardrobe (one side for clothing and the other side to hang my bags and miscellaneous storage). Downsizing my dresser has provided me with more space and it also motivated me to evaluate my wardrobe and figure out what I could donate.

Round Jute Rug - h&m.com

Adding a rug helped to define and separate the corner of my room where my wardrobe and mirror are; I also found that it gave my space more personality. Since most of the furniture in my room is either square or rectangular, I intentionally purchased a circular rug to add contrast.

Multi-Function Alarm Clock - amazon.com

If you are trying to resist the urge to check your phone in the morning, like the smell of essential oils, and you’re not a huge fan of the complete darkness, a multi-function alarm clock might be worth a shot.

Daylight Light Bulbs - amazon.com

Daylight light bulbs have a neutral hue in order to mimic natural sunlight. These type of light bulbs are beneficial for any room, especially those that are windowless or lack natural light.

Full-Length Mirror - amazon.com

Aside from full-length mirrors giving you a full view of your outfit, they also serve as a statement piece and give off the illusion of there being more space in your room.
