Glossier review: HOLOGRAPHIC AND RED TINT LIP GLOSS
When it comes to lip color, I typically play it safe: the classic, nude brown lipstick with a deep brown lip liner is my favorite go to look, but I’m ready for something different. I’ve been wanting to take a break from constantly checking a mirror to make sure my lip color is intact so when I found out that Glossier released two new lip glosses that claimed to be long lasting, this boring granny was willing to spice things up.
For those who are unfamiliar with the beauty brand Glossier, you might’ve come across their ads on Instagram - the ones with the gorgeous, bushy-browed models with the dewy skin. What initially gravitated me to Glossier was their branding aesthetic, and their inclusivity of women of different backgrounds and skin types (I see you, my fellow acne-prone skin sistas). But anyway, back to the glosses. They each contain three key ingredients: Vitamin E for moisture, jojoba oil to help the gloss spread evenly, and gloss-lock technology, which according to them is a mixture that helps the shine to stay put on your lips.
As I stated before, I have trust issues when it comes to lip color because it doesn’t really last on me but since I became a fan of their other products such as Boy Brow and Cloud Paint, I figured it was worth a shot. Wanting to try something different, I purchased the holographic tint and the red tint. They both glided on pretty smooth and I didn’t experience the stickiness or gluey-ness that other lip glosses have given me. Every so often throughout the day, I would check and see if I needed to re-apply but I found that I really didn’t need to.
At first glance, it’s easy to think that the holographic gloss would drench your lips in a glittery shimmer but it was not overwhelming at all. In regards to the red tint, I will say that although Glossier describes the color as subtle and sheer, I was expecting it to be a little deeper because of their pictures online (I realize that it was most likely paired with a lip color or edited to enhance the look). If you do want to boost up the color, I’d maybe suggest trying a red lip liner or lip stain.
My style this summer is 90s-inspired so wearing these glosses took me back to the days where my sisters and I would rock the 99 cent fruit lip gloss, except if I lost this gloss, I’d feel it in my wallet - each gloss costs $14, which is a little pricey, but I do think it’s worth it if you want a product that will last and won’t make you feel like your lips are sealing shut.
